Change is imperative to the church. This blog is a way of responding to the ideas proposed in my book "The Challenge of the Presbyterian Church: Opening Governance to the Movement of the Holy spirit."
I have been the Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of Detroit since 1995. Over the last 15 years I have engaged in the national dialogue in a variety of ways, most visibly by articles published by the Presbyterian Outlook and public conversations on line. I stood for election as Stated Clerk of the General Assembly in 2008. In the process of preparing for that, I traveled and spoke with people all over the country and theological spectrum. I asked each person this question: "What do you think the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly should do and be?"
The answers to that question generated significant discussions about many things. Much of what I have written in my book "The Challenge of the Presbyterian Church: Opening Governance to the Movement of the Holy Spirit" emerged from those conversations.
